1. Wall Magazine ‘Mayooka’
‘Mayooka’ is the wall magazine of the Department. It was started in 1997 by Dr. Rosy Thampy, with ten editorial members. Under the guidance of the faculty, the magazine aims at developing the writing skills of the students in essays, features, stories, and poems.
2. Annual Manuscript Magazine ‘Mayooka’
The annual manuscript magazine of the Department ‘Mayooka’ began in 1997. It contains stories, poems, drawings, features of both the faculty and the students.
3. Department Association
The Department has an Association which regularly meets on the last Wednesday of every month. The Second year degree students who have opted Malayalam are the members of the Association. It forms the podium for poetry recitation, story reading, paper presentation, discussions and debates by students. Each month the activities are organized by students of one department.
4. Film Festival
Every year,the Department hosts an International Film Festival. A theme is fixed for the Festival each year.The past themes were ‘Film and Literature’, ‘Value based Film’, ‘Film and History’, ‘Film and Environment’ etc. The basic objective of the Film Festival is to familiarize the students with the medium of cinema, to teach them to appreciate cinema and provide opportunity to view good cinema.
5. Onam Celebrations
The Department of Malayalam takes the initiative to organize Onam( Kerala’s national festival) celebrations.
6. Kerala Piravi Celebrations (On November 1st. Formation of Kerala State)
On November 1st, we celebrate Kerala Piravi. Special cultural programmes like Kathakali performance, poetry recital etc are conducted and lectures on Kerala culture are organized.
