As per the instructions from the University, election for the various posts in the Students Union was to be conducted on 8th November 2022. Dr. V. Neetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology was the Returning Officer and responsible for the smooth conduct of all the processes related to Students Union election 2022. Ms. Fency K.F., Mr. Nijil Jacobi, Dr. Jesmy Jose, Mr. Jose James were the teachers who were involved in the preparation of ballot papers, polling and final counting of votes. The election was to be conducted in a parliamentary mode and for this purpose, class representatives were to be elected first. This was conducted on 1/11/2022. If more than 2 nominations were received for the post of class representatives, the respective teacher in-charges conducted a class level election in a fair manner. The list of elected representatives were then submitted to the returning officer on the same day. Nominations for the various posts of union office bearers were submitted by the elected representatives by 2/11/22, 3PM. The valid list of nominations after scrutiny were displayed on the notice board on 3/11/22, 12:30PM.
In order to get to know the candidates, a “Meet the Candidate” program was conducted on 4/11/2022 at 1:00PM. The students who submitted nominations for the main office bearer posts introduced themselves and presented their ideas on how they would function if elected. Ballot paper for the election was prepared and sealed by the teachers in charge of the election. Polling started at 9:30AM after the students were instructed on the procedure on how to vote. Election was over by 11:30AM with 63 candidates registering their votes. All the elected representatives were present for the polling. The ballot box was then sealed and locked in the IQAZ room. At 2:30 PM the sealed box was taken out in front of the student representatives, seal broken and ballot papers sorted. Counting of votes was done in the main auditorium with a live update of votes cast being projected onto a screen.
