Department Of Physics
The curriculum designed by the University of Calicut and followed by the Dept. has been especially advantageous for the students in developing scientific temper and also to catch up with the latest knowledge in the scientific field such as nuclear physics and astrophysics. Every year , the department conducts experiments and events related to physical science such as observation of eclipse and other astronomical events which culminated in wonderful learning experiences for the students as well as for curious-minded public. Time tables were set and work hours were allotted to the faculty members ,giving special attention to the areas of specialisation and the requirements of the curriculum. At the outset of the month, the faculty would prepare work plan regarding the lessons to be handled for the month. The work plan would usually progress as per the schedule ,and departed from it only when calamities like flood 2018 posed serious setbacks to the teaching -learning process .Since the Physics department and classes were on the ground floor, the flood disastrously affected the infrastructure including the Physics labs which were vital for the teaching-learning process. Thus as a make-shift arrangement , the labs were arranged at St.Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda ,which provided a real-time and compensatory learning experience for the students. Department faced serious difficulties since a number of filled-up hard copies and soft copies were seriously damaged. The after effects of the flood could be surmounted duly after two-three months, thanks to the support extended by the management , faculty and neighbouring colleges. During the COVID situation, the online classes were conducted according to the regular schedule and the related files and documents have been kept.

Department Of Chemistry
As part of the curriculum, Dept. of Chemistry conducts undergraduate and postgraduate programmes complying with the syllabus prescribed by the University of Calicut. During the period from 2016-2021, Department offered maximum input to extract the best quality output in terms of research experience, experimentation, university examination score and higher education prospects for the students. There was systematic documentation of the curricular work done by the teachers as well as the students, except for the damage of the documents in the flood of 2018. Flood of 2018 had been an unexpected and unpredicted catastrophe which went beyond the topography of the place. The chemistry lab and classrooms which were on the ground floor became completely submerged in water and flood took a heavy toll on the practical classes as well as other activities of the department for a few months. The labs were compensated with the provisional labs arranged at St.Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda and could get through the crisis period.
As regards the implementation of the curriculum, the workload division had been done as per the time table as well as the respective research areas and aptitude of the faculty. The experiments had always been a seminal area of the curricular experience and the faculty had been careful to provide the immediacy of experience to the students, bridging the gap between theory and experience. Lecture notes as well as printed notes were provided to the students for the completion of the teaching-learning experience. During the threat of the COVID pandemic, when the classes were conducted online according to government instruction, regular time table was followed for the conduct of the classes and efficacy was assured with the feedback from the students. Just when the COVID situation subsided and the students were available in the campus, care was exercised to commence practical sessions on a war footing .Separate files had been maintained for the online classes and the weekly details were submitted to the Principal on a regular basis.
