About Us

Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy, is an institution managed by the Alvernia province of Franciscan Clarist congregation, affiliated to the University of Calicut and aided by the Kerala government. The College, established in 1980, as a junior college with Pre-degree courses was upgraded to a first grade status in 1991 and is presently offering a five year integrated Psychology course, nine Undergraduate and eight Postgraduate courses.

The library at Sacred Heart College started functioning in 1980 in the college building. Over the years, the library expanded its collection and functions along with the growth of the college. The library was moved to the new building in 1997. Library automation work was completed in 2009 by installing Libsoft software and it has resulted in a completely automated, state-of-the art, digitally controlled library system. The library is currently using Koha ILMS software.

We have an excellent two-storied Library, which is fully automated with a wide collection of books, periodicals and CDs.The ground floor includes automated gate register, newspaper section, periodical section, reading room, Librarian’s room and two computer rooms with internet connection to facilitate access to online resources. UGC Care listed journals, electronic resources such as N-List and Delnet are made available to all members of the Library.The first floor houses a vast collection of books from various disciplines, journal bound volumes, question papers, a circulation counter and a spacious reading room. The library has an open access system and is committed to the creation of a technology driven learning environment. The library with its modern collection of information resources and innovative information services plays a vital role in the intellectual pursuits of the student community.
