The College Union Elections at Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy, were a remarkable event, characterized by a vibrant and engaging atmosphere. In line with the recommendations of the Lyngdogh Committee Report, our college adhered to the Parliamentary mode of elections.
On the 18th of October 2023, Phase I of the elections was held, focusing on the selection of Class Representatives. Sixty-two elected representatives actively participated in the Phase II of the Election Process and submitted their nominations for the 22 main office bearers between the 18th and 20th of October. These nominations were submitted to the Union-in-Charges, consisting of Ms. Linet Roslin Antony, Mr. Libin Francis, Ms. Niveditha Ajayaghosh, and Mr. Jose James. Notably, the withdrawal of nominations was allowed until the 20th of October 2023.
Following a scrutiny and review process conducted by the Returning Officer, Ms. Linet Roslin Antony, the finalized list of nominations was made public on the 20th of October 2023 at 3:00 pm. With that, the candidates commenced their election campaigns, with the main campaign event, 'Meet the Candidate,' taking place on the 26th of October 2023. This event added intensity and excitement to the Election for the Student Union.
On the designated voting day, all 62 representatives exercised their voting rights between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. Subsequently, the vote counting process was carried out with great anticipation and transparency from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
The climax of this electoral journey arrived when the Principal of the college announced the elected office bearers at 3:00 pm. The announcement was met with resounding applause and an atmosphere filled with heightened enthusiasm, uplifting the spirits of the whole college.
