Independence Day Celebrations and Meri Maati Mera Desh

The NSS Units 76 and 84, celebrated Independence Day and Meri Maati Mera Desh in Sacred Heart College Chalakudy on 15 August, 2023.

 The celebrations started off with the flag hoisting ceremony in the college premises and was followed by  Raastraganam. The program was led by NSS PO Dr. Vijitha Mukundan and Dr. Jesmy Jose, Department of Physical Education.  Dr. Sr. Irene, Principal, Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy gave the message of the day. It was followed by an oath taking ceremony in which the Panch Pran Pledge was taken by volunteers. NSS volunteers sang patriotic songs and sweets were distributed to the gatherings. 

A quiz competition was conducted on Independence Day by NSS leader Rajeswari E.L. Volunteers actively took part in the competition and winners were awarded with prizes. Veero Ka Vandan-  honoring freedom fighters/braves/retired defense personnel who protect the nation &  families of braves was conducted in the College Auditorium. The program was conducted to honor the freedom fighter Late K. Madhavan Nair - former  standing committee chairman  Chalakudy municipality.  NSS leader Rajeswari E.L delivered the welcome speech. Principal Dr. Sr. Irene presided over the function. Fathima V.H of I BA History delivered a speech on Independence Day. She  verbalized the life of struggle led by freedom fighters to emancipate India from the clutches of British rule. Radha M Nair WO Late K. Madhavan Nair was honored by Principal Dr. Sr. Irene and Ward Councillor Bindu Sasikumar. The latter felicitated the gatherings with words of inspiration. Vote of thanks was proposed by NSS PO Dr. Vijitha Mukundan.  

NSS volunteers directed by Principal Dr. Sr. Irene and NSS PO Dr. Vijitha Mukundan visited Santhi Bhavan Chalakudy - Social center for physically handicapped girls. Volunteers distributed sweets to the inmates, interacted with them and many cultural items were presented. The inmates of Santhi Bhavan also presented various activities. The volunteers spent much time with the inmates and they realized their social responsibilities too.
