Karthika S is an Assistant Professor (on contract) in the Department of Journalism. She hails from Thriprayar, Thrissur, and has an academic and professional background spanning print, broadcast, and digital journalism. She is passionate about journalism that serves the public interest, with a particular focus on gender, social issues, and data-driven reporting.
Karthika completed her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Mar Ivanios College (Autonomous), securing Third Rank. She earned her Master of Communication and Journalism (MCJ) from the University of Kerala in 2025, graduating with Second Rank. She qualified the UGC-NET in Mass Communication and Journalism in December 2024, reflecting her commitment to academic excellence and higher education.
Her professional experience bridges academia and the media industry, enabling her to integrate newsroom practices with classroom teaching. She believes journalism education should combine critical thinking with practical skills, encouraging students to engage with contemporary social and political issues through ethical, evidence-based reporting. Alongside teaching, she continues to take a keen interest in public-interest journalism, fact-checking, and media literacy initiatives.
