Introduction

The mentoring policy aims to support the personal and professional development of female students and faculty members within the college. It seeks to provide guidance, encouragement, and resources necessary for their growth and success. This policy of Sacred Heart Autonomous College, Chalakudy focuses on creating a supportive environment where female students and faculty members can access guidance, support, and encouragement to achieve their personal, academic, and career goals. By fostering meaningful mentoring relationships, the college seeks to empower women and promote their success within the institution and beyond.

Objectives

  • Personal Development: To assist mentees in setting and achieving personal goals, enhancing self-confidence, and navigating challenges effectively.
  • Academic Support: To provide academic guidance, including subject-specific assistance, study strategies, and career planning.

Mentorship Structure

  • The Principal shall issue a circular directing the head of the respective departments to assign mentees to their respective mentors.
  • Mentors will be matched with mentees on 1:15 ratio
  • The Heads of the Departments are to submit a list of the mentees (students) and mentors to whom they are assigned to the Principal.
  • Mentorship relationships may vary in duration but typically last for an academic year or longer
  • Regular meetings between mentors and mentees will be encouraged, with a recommended frequency of at least once a month.
  • Mentors will submit a brief report of the mentoring sessions conducted to the Principal, and this information will be kept confidential.

Mentor and Mentee Responsibilities

  • Mentor Responsibilities:
    • Provide guidance, advice, and support based on their expertise and experience.
    • Encourage mentees to explore opportunities for growth and development.
    • Foster a positive and respectful mentoring relationship.
    • Maintain confidentiality and respect mentees’ privacy.
